When taking photos you are less likely to encounter any problem. So long as you are mindful of who or what you are taking pictures of and are careful and courteous you will not have any problems. However, in your quest to take photos for different free photo contests you might find that yourself in a pickle. Many cases are usually written off but in some cases things might escalate quickly. There are many ways to avoid situations like this so here are some things that can land you in trouble when taking pictures. 

Taking pictures in museums or galleries

Galleries and museums are some of the greatest places to take pictures for your photo competitions presentation. However, some museums and galleries might have a specific guidelines regarding photography. These rules are usually at the entrance in a signpost. Others opt to put the policy regarding their websites when it comes to photography.  If you are unsure of anything you can ask for assistance. Some places might allow photography but without a flash or tripod. If you are confronted by a member of staff about making a mistake, avoid confrontation and apologize immediately to avoid escalating the problem. 

Taking photos in religious places of worship

Places of worship have different rules when it comes to photography. If you want photos for your free photo contests entries you can ask for assistance because in some countries you might end up in a lot of trouble. You should be familiar with different customs and traditions of the country and have some respect for that place of worship. In some places of worship, you might not be allowed to take photos during a service or prayer time. It is important to ask first before taking photos.  

If you are in a place where a service is ongoing and you have been allowed to take photos for different photo competitions presentations, do not disrupt the proceedings and stay quiet. Generally most places of worship tend to be tourist attractions and hence photography is allowed during certain hours so you do not have to get yourself in trouble by taking photos when you are not supposed to. 

Taking photos in a military or official building or person

Taking photos of official or military building can land you in big trouble. In some countries you can be accused of espionage and face a prison sentence. If you are in doubt of whether you should take that shot it is not worth it to risk. Certain government institutions allow for people to shoot photos, for example the House of Commons in London and the White House in America. Avoid taking pictures of military installations or buildings.  Take some time to do some research before you shoot any photos near government property.
